Four current and former Lansing-area members of the Michigan House of Representatives today announced their endorsements of State Representative Andy Schor to be the next Mayor of the City of Lansing. The four announced today are:

  1. Former Lansing State Representative and former Lansing City Councilwoman Joan Bauer
  2. House Democratic Leader and Former East Lansing Mayor Sam Singh
  3. Lansing State Representative Tom Cochran
  4. Former Lansing State Representative Lynne Martinez

Former State Representative and Lansing City Councilwoman Joan Bauer said, “I am proud to endorse Andy Schor to be our next Mayor. As a City Councilwoman and as a State Representative, I have worked closely with Andy on many important issues for Lansing. His local government experience on the County Commission and his legislative experience in the State House will allow him to work effectively and cooperatively in the region. And his time at the Michigan Municipal League has taught him how to run a city and will help move Lansing forward.

House Democratic Leader and Former East Lansing Mayor Sam Singh said, “I am excited to endorse Andy Schor for Mayor of Lansing. Andy has tremendous experience in local government and knows cities inside and out. In Andy's first year in the legislature, he saved Lansing and other cities millions when he fought for changes to legislation that others had missed. He has championed efforts to increase revenue sharing for police, fire, and other city services. His background as a problem solver led to his appointment to the Governor’s Task Force on Municipal Pension and Health Care.  Having served as the Mayor of East Lansing, and working regionally with Lansing, I know what it takes to lead a community. Andy Schor is the leader that Lansing needs now to help move the community and region forward."

Lansing State Representative Tom Cochran said, “As state representative and the former Fire Chief for Lansing, I have worked closely with the mayor in Lansing. I am proud to endorse Andy Schor to be the next mayor. Andy understands the intricacies of running a city, and has great relationships regionally. He can talk to city employees as well as make the tough decisions to make Lansing excel into the future. I have enjoyed working with Andy in the Legislature and look forward to continuing that relationship with Andy as the Mayor of Lansing.”

Former Lansing State Representative Lynne Martinez said, “I am greatly impressed with the broad range of city issues that Andy Schor worked on while at the Michigan Municipal League. He has also worked across the aisle to pass legislation on issues that matter to us inLansing. I am happy to endorse Andy Schor to lead Lansing, and I am sure Andy will serve us well and make us proud as Mayor.”

Schor expressed his thanks, saying “These current and former leaders for Lansing and the Lansing region have been in state and city government, and know what it takes to lead. I thank them for their faith in me to take Lansing to the next level, and to be a leader on behalf of Lansing in the capital area region.”

This endorsement follows that of two labor unions, over 30 elected officials in the Lansing region, dozens of Lansing neighborhood leaders and the Greater Lansing Association of Realtors since the kick-off of Schor’s candidacy for Lansing Mayor.
